Taylor's Pygmy Leatherjacket

Brachaluteres taylori

Taylor's Pygmy Leatherjacket (Brachaluteres taylori) is a small filefish found in the western Pacific, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia and the Marshall Islands. This species has an almost circular, laterally compressed body and reaches approximately 5 cm in standard length. Adults are typically yellowish-green, pale yellow or greyish, with fine dark brown lines and spots across the head and body. Juveniles are generally paler, with small dark spots. The abdomen is capable of expanding. Taylor's Pygmy Leatherjacket inhabits coastal reefs, often sheltering among algae, hard and soft corals, sponges and crinoids. Usually encountered alone, its rounded body shape, delicate markings and small size make it an interesting subject for underwater macro photography.
