CANYON 3
CANYON 3 lies around a bend in the bay, where shallow sand and coral patches give way to a descending reef slope. Coral heads, sponges, tunicates, and crevices create different miniature habitats as the depth changes. Garden eels and small crustaceans may be observed in shallower areas, while previous observations have included Denise’s pygmy seahorses near suitable deeper gorgonian habitats. Ghost Melibe and other colorful nudibranchs reward careful searching. Deeper sections are explored only when diver experience, gas planning, and conditions allow. From garden eels and nudibranchs in shallower water to gorgonian habitats on planned deeper dives, the attraction is the changing microhabitat. Focus on camouflage, close observation, and careful macro composition; no particular sighting is guaranteed. Ghost Melibe and other colorful nudibranchs, Denise’s pygmy seahorses, garden eels, hairy shrimp, spider crabs, sashimi shrimp, and other macro life.
